About the Model

Model version 1.2.0 · data from API-Sports (last 10 matches)

Jackpot Predictor estimates football match outcomes using a Poisson goals model, a well-established statistical approach for modelling the number of goals a team scores in a match. Here’s how it works, step by step.

1. Reading your fixtures

You paste a fixture list or upload a screenshot/PDF. The team names — and the country or competition where shown — are read automatically. The country acts as a guide so the right club is matched (for example, distinguishing a Zimbabwean side from a same-named European club).

2. Matching teams to data

Each team is matched to a record in API-Sports, the football data provider. You can review and correct these matches before the analysis runs, and supply a manual team ID for any obscure lower-division club that isn’t matched automatically.

3. Measuring form

For both teams we pull their last 10 completed matches and calculate average goals scored and conceded, split by home and away. This gives an attacking and defensive strength estimate grounded in recent results rather than reputation.

4. The Poisson model

We combine each team’s strengths with league baselines to estimate the expected goals (xG) for the home and away side:

The Poisson distribution then gives the probability of each exact scoreline. Summing these gives the probability of a home win (1), draw (X) and away win (2), plus the single most likely scoreline.

5. Picks, covers and risk

From the probabilities we derive:

Limitations

The model uses recent goal data only. It does not know about injuries, suspensions, line-ups, motivation, weather, or cup vs league context, and lower-division or international-youth teams may have limited data. Treat every output as a statistical estimate, not a certainty. No prediction can guarantee a result.
